Department Of Oral Pathology And Microbiology
The Department of Oral Pathology & and Microbiology is the specialty of dentistry and
discipline of pathology that deals with the nature, identification, and management of
diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions.
The department is involved in the undergraduate teaching program in the subjects of
Dental Anatomy & Histology for I BDS and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology
for III BDS. A total of 100 students per batch attend the lectures and practical classes.
The students are divided into smaller batches and are assigned a batch instructor for
effective and individualistic learning experience. A number of activities were carried out,
along with the routine events, in the department of Oral Pathology and Microbiology as a part of faculty and student development programme.
The staff of the department helps in guiding a number of undergraduate students in presenting scientific papers and e-posters. The staff encourages and guides the students in many competitions such as paper and poster presentations, model making etc in order to facilitate self-directed learning. Regular journal clubs are conducted by the staff for the interns.
Along with the regular teaching program, the department of oral pathology and Microbiology laboratory is involved in a number of hematological investigations such as: Complete hemogram, blood sugar investigations, etc. Oral exfoliative cytology is also done on suspicious lesions along with staining and reporting of the smears thus obtained. The department is largely active in histopathology, diagnosis and reporting of the slides. A number of tissues samples from various departments as well as from private clinics are diagnosed and reported here. Some of the recently diagnosed special or rare cases by the department include: squamous cell carcinoma, peripheral ossifying fibroma, condylar hyperplasia, Dentigerous cyst, Warthin’s tumor, follicular Ameloblastoma, Osteomyelitis etc.
The records for the same are maintained under the routine and special category of histopathology cases, which is updated regularly. Also, a total OPD of 1,480 cases was reported. Department of Oral Pathology & Microbiology organized a blood sugar investigation camp for all teaching and non-teaching staff. A total of 70 staff participated in the camp. The participants were counselled about the importance of maintaining normal blood sugar levels and also about regular balanced diet. Proper guidance and appropriate advice were given wherever required. Also, a programme on Women’s safety was organised on 10th March 2022. Police Subinspector Varsha Kale from Navi Mumbai police station and Seema Gughe from Mahape delivered lectures on Self-defense for women and Cybercrime awareness for students, teaching and non- teaching staff

Dr. Godge is a graduate from Jamnalal Goenka Dental College, Akola and a post – graduate from Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai. She has a teaching experience of more than 16 years. She has several national and international publications to her credit. Currently, a Professor in the Dept. Of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.
Dr. Meghana S.M.
Reader
Dr. Meghana graduated from M.S. Ramaiah Dental College, Bangalore and did her post graduation from Bapuji Dental College, Davangere. She has a teaching experience of 12 years. She is involved in various research projects. She has several national and international publications to her credit. She is also on the editorial Board of Terna Journal of Dental Sciences and works as a Reader in the Dept. Of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.
Dr. Sandip Kulkarni

Dr. Kulkarni is a graduate from Govt. Dental College, Mumbai and a post – graduate from Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai. He has a teaching and clinical experience of 11 years, involved in research activities. He has several national and international publications to his credit and works as a Reader in the Dept. Of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.

Dr. Shroff is a graduate from AB Shetty Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore and a post – graduate from Pad. Dr. D.Y. Patil Dental College, Pune. She has joined as a lecturer and is currently associated with active research work in the Dept. of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.

Dr. Jadhav graduated from Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai. She has been in academics since the last 10 years and currently is a lecturer in the Dept. of Oral Pathology and Microbiology.
